Los Angeles based metal band Ancient Spell show an unapologetic love for the genre by combining elements of heavy metal, doom, stoner, thrash, and death metal. The result is a formidable assault of riffs, beats, and dark lyrics delivered with ominous ferocity.
Formed in 2012 by songwriter/guitarist Conrad Viz with bass player Jeff Clark, Ancient Spell released their self-titled debut in 2013. By developing a tight knit community of fans around them, Ancient Spell quickly went from playing backyard parties and small bars to playing venues like the world famous Whisky A Go-Go. Drummer Rob Thompson joined the band in the Summer of 2014, and Donnie Marhefka became the front man vocalist in the Winter of 2014.
Ancient Spell entered the studio in 2015 to record its sophomore release, Forever In Hell, which was released on Minotauro Records that Fall. They also recruited guitarist Dan Rado to round out the lineup. After touring throughout 2015 and 2016, getting a guest spot on Check It Out! With Dr Steve Brule, and contributing a song to the soundtrack of the independent film Nowhereland, Ancient Spell started writing material for a third release.
Recorded and produced by Grammy nominee Chris Collier, the 2017 album Eternal Punishment is the next step in Ancient Spell’s evolution. With Jeff and Dan contributing songs alongside Conrad’s writing, Eternal Punishment is their most diverse and merciless release to date.
